It’s been an age since I posted my Man Oscars or laminated my list but rather than another dose of on hunks o’ men, this is a list of my TV / film / web girl crushes – those women I admire and adore. In no particular order:
Felicia Day

Leading the web in girl geekery, Felicia writes, stars in and directs her own web series, The Guild, about a girl gamer. She also starred in Joss Whedon’s superb Dr Horrible’s Sing-a-long Blog and also had a part in Buffy. She is lovely, pretty, geeky, clever, well-read, witty and has red hair! She also Twitters!
Eliza Dushku

Another Whedon-gal, Eliza played the bad-good-bad-good vampire slayer Faith in Buffy and Angel who came into being when the extremely annoying Kendra got pegged. Faith wore some slamming outfits and kicked some serious ass. Her follow-up short-lived series, Tru Calling, was enjoyable enough but did not seem to have the legs to keep it going. When she teamed up with Joss Whedon again for Dollhouse, I knew it would be awesome. I was not disappointed. Her role as Echo, the ‘doll’ who is loaded with a series of personas required Eliza to play many different characters and she does it seamlessly. My season 1 DVD boxset is on it’s way and the new series starts again soon. EEP! Eliza twitters too.
Christina Hendricks

I already blogged about how beautiful this lady is. How refreshing to see someone on our screens who does not fit into the size zero Hollywood mould.
Isla Fisher

Adorable, bubble, Aussie and, best of all, very, very funny, Isla first hit our screens as Shannon in Australian soap opera Home and Away (with which UK have a perennial love affair). As well as being Sasha Baron Cohen’s other half, she also delighted in Wedding Crashers. Last weekend, I watched Confessions of a Shopaholic in which Isla managed to make a potentially irritating character lovable.
Jenna Fischer

Another (sometimes) red-headed funny lady (starting to see a pattern here?), Jenna plays the lovely Pam Beesley in the American adaption of The Office. Love this show. Love her. Can’t wait to see Pam pregnant and getting married in the new season which starts very soon!
Summer Glau

She played a terminator, a wicked talented genius in Firefly and Serenity, had a one-off part in Angel as a ballerina (another of Summer’s talents) and is about to appear in season 2 of Dollhouse (making her another Whedon-gal – another theme!?). She is beautiful but unusual.
Miracle Laurie

One of the reasons I love Joss Whedon is because he is not afraid to cast actresses who are beautiful but not necessarily stick thin. Miracle is gorgeous and curvy and plays the doll Mellie/November in Dollhouse. She broke my heart in her Mellie scenes. I hear she will be back in Season 2 (as November). She also plays the ukulele. What’s not to love about that? Miracle is on Twitter too.
Anna Friel

She may have started out in Brookside but Anna has come a long way. I adored her in the scrumpalicious Pushing Daisies (sadly cancelled). I am very excited to hear she is on stage in the West End in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I need to book my ticket! Ooh and she is British!
