We desperately need to catch up with this show.  I can’t believe I didn’t realise that Michael C Hall had cancer though (hence the funky hat).  I am sending lots of good thoughts his way.

We are watching Dexter Season 2 at the moment and I am still gripped each episode. This show is so different to other things on with such interesting and intriguing characters, we can’t get enough.

I am hopelessly addicted to One Tree Hill. I managed to avoid it for so long but I have started watching it sporadically round about the end of season 3 and the beginning of season 4 and now it is series linked in Sky + both for the daily season 2 repeats (I have already got through season 1) and the weekly season 4. I love seeing Wilmington on TV having visited there briefly (it’s also Capeside!). I even dreamed about Chad Michael Murray which is very disturbing as I really don’t think he is all that. Anyway, I have yet to be compelled to own this on DVD so let’s hope this is just a phase. I fear it is not.

I watched Desperate Housewives avidly when it first started but dropped it for a season or so. I have now been drawn back into it with the daily repeats (this is what getting sick will do for you!) so I have been watching the second half of season 3 and have already diarised the start of season 4 later this month. I am hopeless.

I am also horrendously addicted to Home and Away but on YouTube so I am watching the episodes shortly after they air in Aus. I was rather thrilled to see that the guy who used to play Drazic in Heartbreak High was returning to H+A (I had missed his first turn). It is really a shame to see his scars (he was in a serious car crash) but he is ultra menacing as bad-guy Jonny.

American Idol is back and I am enjoying it as ever. It always takes me a while to decide on my favourites and I don’t like getting too attached before the Top 12 stage but so far this season has been pretty good with some strong girls (e.g. the Irish one) and some hot men ( e.g. the Aussie one).

Lost is back with a vengeance and I am LOVING season 4. I have not seen last week’s episode yet (but I will tomorrow so SHHH) but I really enjoyed the Kate-centric episode last week. Skate AND Jate action for those of the Lost community that have such leanings. Personally, I hope she never chooses!!

We have just started watching Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and whilst I fear it is a bit ridiculous, I LOVE IT! Sexy teenage fembot? CHECK! Cool kid playing John Connor? CHECK! Hard-ass Sarah Connor? CHECK!!

We are enjoying the US series of Gordon Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares. Watching Ramsey chew out stupid restaurateurs is class.

We also like the odd episode of Grand Designs. Some of the things that get built are Ker-AY-zee. Also, I do wish people who insist on building these ambitious projects could look up the phrase ‘contingency fund’. Sheesh.

However there are plenty of shows I am still waiting to watch:

Men in Trees is now over til the summer – hopefully it will be back with Jack not dead. If he dies, I will probably stop watching. Maybe.

Bones – hopefully season 3 will start up again in April.

24 – not going be back til 2009 – how will I cope with the Bauer until then?

Firefly – I have it on DVD but still haven’t watched passed the first couple of episodes. I fully intend to start watching this again soon.

Heroes – After aborting the first attempt to watch this (I had too much TV on my plate), I now want to start over again and watch it with Ricardo. It is downloaded so we just need to find the time.

Rescue Me – we caught up with this hard-hitting and near-to–the-knuckle series and now await Season 5.

If you haven’t seen this, the recap at Television Without Pity can do it more justice than I can be arsed to this late on a Sunday evening. Let’s just say that it is series-linked and ready to go for next Sunday. In fact, if todays episode was a repeat (which I have a suspicion it may have been) then I may even be watching episode 2 even sooner!

Ooh and Dexter was on tonight – looking forward to seeing that when we get the chance.  It is just getting better and better that show.

I caught up on some TV this evening: Dirt is still quite promising as a show that will never have me hooked but is diverting and entertaining. NCIS is in a similar vain but less shocking and more relaxing to watch.

I also watched the first episode of season 6 of Smallville which has finally come to E4. I have seen some episodes/parts of episodes on YouTube so I will definitely give this season a go despite me losing interest for season 5. I feel that it should be wrong to think that Tom Welling is hot…how old is that boy? (OK so he is older than my husband and only one year younger than me! In that case he definitely is hot!). I so have a super hero complex.

Fonejacker is a show I am loving right now – basically you have one guy who makes crank calls in all different characters and that coupled with the humorous images that go with the audio make for FUNNEEEE tv.  The character Terry Tibbs is my favourite:

I have finished Angel season 2 now and I really enjoyed it after all. I forgot quite how much happened in that season. Dark Angel (the moody man, not the kick ass show) was a bit of a bore but it did mean he boned Darla which was interesting (in that he kept his soul) if a little gross (in that it will produce Connor – the worst thing to happen to AtS).

I have not yet watched last night’s Dexter which I am really looking forward to along with catching up on Big Brother (although I am losing interest the longer that stupid cow Charley is in the house – I really cannot stand to watch her anymore). Tomorrow night will bring another episode of What About Brian (still digging this Thirtysomething for the Noughtys) and NCIS (season 4). There are just not enough hours in the day.

Oh and wish me luck with that Dawson’s thing… I must be strong. I must resist.

I am looking forward to her real eviction because she is not going to win.  That is 100% certain.

I have been watching the first few epidoses of Angel Season 2 following my recent purchase of the DVDs.  I forgot how much I really love this series.  Buffy will always be my favourite of the two (in fact, Buffy could be my favouite series full stop) but Angel is a worthy spin-off.  Season 2 is also the season I have seen the least so it is nice watching it not quite remembering what happens next.  Wes is really coming into his own, Cordelia is becoming a real champion in her own right and Angel is, of course, brooding and sexy and nobel and a little flawed and all that good stuff that makes him pretty cool.  Gunn is not my favourite character – I never really warmed to him even at the end but at least he has gotten over himslf even to be tolerable.

Dexter – it was cracking again last night – I am still very much a fan of this show albeit only two episodes in. 
Scrubs – Season 6 has just started on E4 so we are watching that – it is weird that Turk is a dad and JD will be one but I still love the show.
My Name is Earl – We had stopped watching My Name is Earl but now the third season is back on E4, we watched a couple of episodes over the weekend – it makes perfect filler – light and funny with likeable characters.

We watched You, Me and Dupree which was enjoyable and funny.  And had Owen Wilson (although he is definitely not on my list – I made the right call there).  We also watched Aeon Flux which was much better than expected.  I had fairly low expectations since it did not get great reviews but I really liked it.  I am a bit of a sucker for a film that looks beautiful.  Plus I have pretty low standards when it comes to films.  I liked Doom.

Complex television characters are harder to come by these days so it is fascinating to get inside the head of someone who has a warped morality, a total lack of interest in human interaction yet is able to channel this violence and depravity into something that is almost (almost) acceptable.  Last night, his two victims were a paedophile/murderer and a rapist/murderer/snuff film maker.  Not the type of people we want on this earth.  And yet the ritualistic killing of these monsters is uncomfortable to contemplate.

Dexter’s speciality is blood.  He reads blood splatters.  He can read the story that the blood tells.  And behind the charade of his polite smiles, sharing of donuts and caring attitude, he lacks something inside that means he is not a part of society – he doesn’t understand the rules, the ritual.  He only understands his ritual.

With some illuminating flashbacks to his foster dad.  He was a great cop who saw that his foster son was different.  Fearing that his sons violent tendencies would turn to people, he taught him to channel his energy to catching the bad guys.  He taught him how to catch them and how to avoid detection himself.

Other interesting characters include Dexter’s foster sister, Debra (played by Jennifer Carpenter) and his girlfriend, Rita (played by Julie Benz of Buffy/Angel fame).  Debra has a lot of heart.  Also a cop but stuck in Vice, she has ambititions to move into Homicide and Dexter is a great source of encouragement and support for her.  In return, in Dexter’s own words, she is the only person in the world who loves him, now that their foster parents are both dead.  Rita is the perfect girl for Dexter.  Traumatised by a sexually violent ex-boyfriend, she is not interested in sex which suits the asexual Dexter.

This show will NOT be for everyone but I am really interested to see how the next episode plays out.  It is nice to watch something really different for a change that makes you think and leaves you with a strange feeling of enjoyment mixed with discomfort.  Keeps a TV junkie like me on my toes.
