A Little Break Away

The other day, Rich and I booked a short break – a week in the Peak District in June – and I am looking forward to this so much. I don’t think I really realised how much I could do with a holiday. It’s not so much that I need a break because my life is so non-stop but we have so many things we want to get done around the house, it will be nice to have a week where we are unable to feel guilty about not decorating, not boarding the loft, not sorting out the garden, not clearing our admin etc. Instead, we will be able to have a relaxing holiday as a family and since Evelina will be in bed by 7pm every night, we will have some lazy evenings to read, watch DVDs and spend some quality time together.

While we are there, I want to visit my family who live in Pott Shrigley which is also where we got married, as well as Lyme Park which is just over the back of where my grandparents lived. It is the BBC Pride and Prejudice Pemberley and somewhere that my brother and I explored during our childhood as our grandparents worked in the National Trust shop. We are staying relatively near to Chatsworth (the film version Pemberley) so we might go back there too.

Insert Witty Title Here

Thinking of blog post titles is the bane of my blogging life. Whenever I read tips about being a better blogger, one of the key pieces of advice is to have Great Blog Post Titles and if necessary, write them once you have written the post when you have a better feel for what your post is about. A Great Blog Post Title is an elusive animal, though. When I draft a new blog post, I have taken to writing the title as ‘Insert Witty Title Here’ but the pressure to think of something witty is overwhelming! What makes a great post title is never really explained. When I am reading blogs, I like to know what the post is going to be about but when so many of my posts are random navel-gazing or excusing a lack of posting, it is hard to think of new and creative ways to say so. I suppose I just answered my own question: I need to blog about things that are more interesting!

It seems an age since I wrote about myself on this blog which is strange since this is meant to be a personal blog. Sometimes I think that’s because there is less of ‘me’ than there used to be. There is a lot of ‘us’ and a lot of ‘her’ or ‘him’. But not so much ‘me’. I am not even saying that I mind that. I love the feeling of having a family of my own and I love my part in that family. My me time centres around work (which is going well, two days a week, relaxed atmos, Dad for a boss, Mum for a child minder, busy busy busy at the moment) and sew make believe (which is also going well although I am in the throes of transforming the casual club into more of a business entity along with all new aspects which are currently bubbling away). My teaching application was submitted FINALLY a month ago and I am anxiously checking the tracking website daily for news even though they will probably email me as soon as there is any. I am trying not to think to hard about what getting a place or not getting a place will mean for me at the moment. I don’t need another cold sore.

15 Months

I have so much to write about Evelina and the last three months since my last monthly update but for now I will just share this video which features walking (!) and a bit of talking (kinda) and throwing of ball.

Walk in the Woods

Just 2 years and 3 months after I bought them, I finally finished my Rosy Little Things  Walk in the Woods Felt Ornaments. In fact, I only started them in January this year, so they didn’t take long to make at all and it is nice to have some more Christmas decorations ready for next Christmas already. I think I will leave the other packs that I have (Snow Day and Sweet Home) until later in the year as I am a bit felted out ( I just had to Urban Dictionary the word ‘felted’ to make sure it didn’t mean something else – you never know nowadays! Apparently it means to lose all your chips in poker – perfectly harmless).
