On Saturday evening, ricardo’s band mates came over so I took myself upstairs with my Alias season 1 DVDs and started Baby Girl’s quilt. This was the first time I have made a quilt of this size – I have decided to make a single bed quilt – and the cutting job was immense, even with a rotary cutter. Still, in one evening I managed to cut all 475 squares of fabric.
The pattern calls for 520 squares for a twin bed (20 4″ squares x 26 4″ squares) but I was just short of fabric so I decided that rather than cut into the fabric I have for the backing, I would just do 19 x 25 on the basis that it won’t make that much difference to the size of the overall quilt (just 4″ shorter and 4″ narrower). If after working out my binding / backing requirements I have the fabric for the extra 45 squares then I can always cut more.
Next job: start sewing!
You have done 2 of the most difficult things already, choosing the fabric and cutting it, now it is not way back, go ahead and let us know how you get on with it
I am sure it will look fab with such lovely fabric
Thanks Lizzet! Having said that, I do always forget about the quilting part and how long that takes (I like to hand quilt!)… maybe I will be brave enough to try machine quilting for this one?!
Hi Kate, love your choice of fabric and your motivation. Where did you get the fabric as I have to make bunting for two bedrooms and can’t find much cute, ditsy and vintage stuff out there, any suggestions? Good luck with the quilt btw x
Hi Jo, it’s Tilda fabric and I bought it online from Cotton Patch. x
I am in LOVE with the colours and patterns you’ve chosen! Absolutely gorgeous.
Gorgeous fabric! What a beautiful heirloom your baby will be able to pass down through the generations.
Aw thanks! That’s the idea but lets hope the final article lives up to my expectations!
