20 second reviews – part 5

The Hills Have Eyes
27 February 2009

I rarely hate a film as much as I hated this.  I am not even sure why I put this on the list (I am fairly sure it was me and not Rich sinc ehe is not a fan of the horror genre).  I like my horror films either clever/stylish with an emphasis on anticipation and or old school Halloween with 70s outfits and kitchy soundtracks.  This was vile.  It was needlessly grusome and sick.   I am not sure why we watched it through to the end, especially since the ending was so pointless.  I will most definitely not be watching this again.

The Covenant
27 February 2009

I have a confession, I only added this to the list because it starred a certain long-hairded Canadian, Taylor Kitsch.  And whilst I love him as tim Riggins in Friday Night Lights (and Gasmbit in Wolvering for that matter), his role in this film was not enough to make it really that good.  I was kind kind of ok.  I didn’t hate it.  I just found it kind of forgettable.  It just goes to show not even the prettiest faces can make a bad film good.  I won’t be watching this again.

Son of Rambow
21 April 2009

Adorable.  Heart-wrenching. Funny.  Cleverly written.  I loved this movie.  It was one of those that sat on our TV stand for weeks because I couldn’t get in the mood but when we finally popped it in, I was in bits.  I cried, I laughed, I was completely enchanted.  The child actors were superb and even good old Chuck Bass (with his proper London-boy accent) didn’t disappoint.  I want to see this again at some point, for sure.

Capote
21 April 2009

Philip Seymour Hoffman is a complete legend.  I watched this film and totally forgot I was watching a film – I felt like I was seeing a documentary, a real life insight into this amaznig writer.  I definitely helped that both Rich and I had recently read In Cold Blood.  I loved everything about this film, and especially the mood of it, the lighting, the vistas, the cinematography.  I want to see this again and soon.

Burn After Reading
21 May 2009

After a shakey start, the reviews in this part have got well into their stride.  Burn After Reading was another film I absolutely adored.  It was incredibly funny, clever, well-shot, well-cast, well-written and Brad Pitt and George Clooney were a revelation to me.  I will most definitely be watching this again.
